Solitary Confinement

This piece captures the experience of being trapped within—cut off, silenced, and isolated inside one’s own mind. The figure sits behind bars that appear fixed, rigid, and inescapable.

But the bars are removable.

They are not fused to the piece. They can be taken out, one by one.

The confinement feels real. The isolation feels absolute. And yet, the barrier is not permanent.

In sandtray work, this piece can represent internal imprisonment—shame, dissociation, depression, or the impact of trauma that keeps parts of the self hidden and unreachable. It also introduces a critical truth: what confines can be loosened. What imprisons can be shifted.

The bars may feel permanent—but they are not.
