Storyteller

Some stories are carried in words. Others are carried through generations.

Storyteller depicts a woman surrounded by children, gathered close as she holds their attention and shares what she knows. There is a sense of connection in this piece—the passing of stories, wisdom, memory, culture, and lived experience from one person to another.

She can represent the people who help us understand where we came from, the stories that shape who we become, and the importance of having someone willing to listen to our own story. She may also hold the role of elder, teacher, caregiver, keeper of memories, or the person who makes space for voices that need to be heard.

In sandtray work, Storyteller can represent family stories, ancestry, cultural identity, generational wisdom, connection, belonging, teaching, caregiving, memory, legacy, or finding and sharing one's own voice.
