There are moments when we cannot carry ourselves alone.
The Holding captures the safety of being gathered close—of being protected, steadied, and held when the world feels too heavy. Wrapped within the wolf’s embrace, the smaller figure is not asked to stand, explain, or be strong. They are simply held.
The wolf brings another layer to the piece: instinct, protection, loyalty, and fierce guardianship. Its strength does not overpower the figure within its arms; it surrounds them. The Holding can speak to the people who have carried us through difficult places, the protective parts within ourselves, or the deep human need to know that someone will stay.
In sandtray work, The Holding can represent safety, protection, attachment, co-regulation, caregiving, belonging, trust, vulnerability, inner protectors, or the experience of being held through something we cannot yet carry on our own.
